NexTrex Recycling Program

We are excited to announce that the Somerset County Garden Club is now participating in the Trex Recycling Challenge Program. Our President, Kathy Henderson, is leading the charge for this new project.

Trex turns plastic bags and film into composite decking and railing. Most plastic bags and film are not recyclable in curbside-recycling programs. So, this is a great way to help keep plastic out of our oceans and landfills.

We have a goal to recycle x pounds of plastic in the next xxx. When we achieve this goal, Trex will send us a composite bench made from recycled materials, which we plan on placing at one of our Gold Star or Blue Star memorials.

Start saving your plastic! See the poster for what type of bags we can recycle through the Challenge - and click the link to download & print for your reference.

  • Collect your plastic in a large clear plastic bag (we can give you these).

  • Bring your bags with you to the next member meeting and we will weigh & document towards our goal.

  • We will be accumulating all our plastic and then delivering it to the recycling center to receive our recycling credits.
