On April 8th, Somerset County Garden Club made a site visit to the Horticulture Program at the Somerset County Technical High School in Westover and met with program leader, Bethany Davis.
Club members on the site visit were (shown below left to right): Mary Fleury (Project Chairman), Smaro George (Past Vice President), Kathy Henderson (President), Bethany Davis (Program Leader), Leanne Pfautz (Vice President), and Karen Lischick (Recording Secretary). Also attended but not in photo: Karen Brimer (Past President).

The Horticulture class was awarded $600 from the Garden Club for soil, seeds, plant food, tools, class trips and other needs as Ms. Davis deemed appropriate to encourage youth gardening. Pictures were taken with club members and students, an overview was given of the raised beds with vegetables that had wintered over, new seedlings were growing in preparation for their annual plant sale, and a discussion was entertained for further needs of the horticulture program.
The Garden Club plans on continuing support of the Horticulture program. Mary Fleury is serving as project chairman this year.
You can support their program by visiting the Technical High School to purchase a wide variety of their annuals, plants and hanging baskets. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 2:45 pm. The address is: 7994 Tawes Campus Drive, Westover, MD. Cash, checks and charge accepted.
